BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police are warning residents of a computer scam targeting senior citizens in the city.
Police said there have been ongoing reports of the scam where older residents are asked to give access to their computer to a company remotely to fix a technical or virus issue. At some point, the scammers ask for money to be wired for “services rendered” in fixing the purported problem.
“Wire transfers are especially suspicious,” Beverly police said. “Wire transfers are not a typical payment method for these types of services. Many times this money is unrecoverable.”
