One of the 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers the model is projecting: Phillies second baseman Jean Segura.
Segura’s 2022 Fantasy baseball ADP has taken a bit of a jump over where expectations fell for him in 2021 preseason Fantasy rankings. However, he is still being drafted far later than other second basemen despite finishing as one of the position’s most consistent hitters last year. His numbers were quite competitive with those he put up as an All-Star with Seattle in 2018, and he had batting splits of .290/.348/.436 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.
After this season, Philadelphia must decide if they want to bring him back on a club option worth $17 million, which is another $2.15 million than it has been paying him for the last three seasons. The model thinks that he can earn it, and provide better Fantasy value than others currently going before him like Brandon Lowe, Marcus Semien or Jake Cronenworth.

After playing just 14 games through his first two seasons with Houston, he pitched in 20 games for the Astros last year, and finished with an 8-3 record in the regular season with a 3.62 ERA. Urquidy made his Grapefruit League debut last week, and gave up just two hits in three innings of work. Last season, he struck out batters at a rate of 21.3 percent, and had the third-lowest ERA in the rotation (3.62), with the lowest WHIP (0.99).
Staff ace Justin Verlander just turned 39-years-old and Zack Greinke left in the offseason to return to Kansas City. The Astros are hoping Urquidy pushes to lead its next generation of starting pitchers, which is why the model likes his value more than higher-drafted options like Carlos Rodon, Alcantara and Freddy Peralta.
