Commenters on a viral internet post were left confused after one Reddit user showcased their neighbors’ bizarre parking arrangement.
In a viral Reddit post published on r/mildlyinfuriating, one Redditor (otherwise referred to as the original poster, or OP) shared a photo of two cars parked directly in the middle of a cul-de-sac, and explained what exactly is happening in the image.
Captioned, “Neighbors in semi-cul-de-sac don’t use their driveways, but park end to end in front of them into the street,” the viral post has received more than 17,000 votes and nearly 1,000 comments in the last day.
Across the United States, parking policies vary from city to city, neighborhood to neighborhood and block to block.
In some neighborhoods, homeowners associations are responsible for creating and maintaining parking regulations.
HOA Management, an online resource for members of homeowners associations, reports that some associations regulate the types of vehicles allowed in communities, often banning recreational vehicles, boats and campers.
Other associations regulate where residents park, how long they park for and can even enforce community members to park their cars in garages if they don’t meet certain standards, according to HOA Management.
However, parking disputes in private and public communities continue to occur on a regular basis, sometimes resulting in bizarre social media posts like the one shared by the original poster, and sometimes in violence.
Last December, Newsweek reported on a Florida man who turned a flamethrower on a car with three teenagers inside due to an ongoing parking feud. Less than a month later, a viral TikTok showed a man using a “37-point turn” to exit a parking space after his neighbor parked across the back of the space his motorcycle was in.
How parking disputes are resolved varies on a case-by-case basis, but throughout the comment section of the viral post, Redditors were less concerned with how the original poster’s neighbor’s parking arrangement could be solved, and more interested with the seeming lack of common sense and regard for other residents.
In the post’s top comment, which has received more than 6,000 votes, Redditor u/KrayzieBoneTL85 was blunt about their feelings towards the bizarre parking set up.
“This may actually be the dumbest thing I have ever seen,” they wrote.
“Made me say ‘What in the f**k’ out loud,” Redditor u/herrcollin added.
Redditor u/ogkingofnowhere, whose response has received more than 2,000 votes, said that people who park where they shouldn’t actively impact their job performance.
“Hate these type of people especially as a delivery driver,” they commented.
“Why would you even WANT to park like this even as a raging a**hole,” Redditor u/PercentageCandid added. “It makes NO SENSE.”
In a separate comment, one Redditor sarcastically encouraged the original poster to contact the proper authorities to bring an end to the parking arrangement, while another Redditor brought attention to the potential hazards of parking in the middle of a cul-de-sac.
“Call your local parking enforcement division,” the first commented, receiving more than 2,500 votes. “They LOVE giving tickets. And everyone HATES getting tickets.”
“Yep. Cul-de-sacs are designed to allow emergency vehicles to turn around,” the second chimed in.
“In some places, fire officials can also cite violations or have vehicles towed as a public safety hazard,” they added.
